DisOrientation - Dancehall Queen Movie Night

The Centre for Safer Sex and Sexual Violence Support is starting a new support group for Black identified women and non-binary folks! To kick off our support group we will be screening the 1997 Jamaican film Dancehall Queen.

Dancehall Queen is an Independent Jamaican film directed and written by Don Letts, starring Audrey Reid. This film follows the life of single mother Marcia as she navigates the harsh realities of motherhood and poverty all while maintaining her alter ego as "mystery woman," an up and coming dancehall dancer. Dancehall Queen explores themes of sexual agency, misogynoir, hypersexualization, colonialism and black sisterhood.

Wednesday, Sept. 11
7-10pm | Centre for Safer Sex & Sexual Violence Support Office, SCC-B03A, 55 Gould St.
