  • Acceptability: When all people, at all times, have access to culturally acceptable food which is produced in wasy that do not compromise people's dignity, self-respect or human rights.
  • Accessibility: When all people, at all times, have physical & economic access to good food.
  • Adequacy: When all people, at all times, have access to food that is nutritious, safe and is produced in environmentally friendly ways.
  • Agency: When all people, at all times, have access to the policies & procedures that enable the achievement of food security.
  • Availability: When all people, at all times, have access to enough food to meet their needs.

Food Advocacy Organisations

Toronto Youth Food Policy Council (TYFPC)

TYFPC is the world's first youth-run food policy council. The council seeks to mobilize and engage youth to make change by building a just food system by fostering networking, opportunity sharing, and collective learning. TYFPC holds two permanent seats on the Toronto Food Policy Council.

Meal Exchange

Meal Exchange is a national youth-driven, registered charity that engages, educates, and mobilizes youth to work with their communities to alleviate hunger. The charity looks to education and implement of solutions as a mean for youth to address hunger and food security issues.

Sustain Ontario

Sustain Ontario is a province-wide, cross-sectoral alliance that promotes healthy food and farming through a collaborative approach to research, policy development and action. The alliance looks to address the intersecting issues related to healthy food and sustainable agriculture through numerous initiatives. For more information visit their website here.

FoodShare

FoodShare is a non-profit community organization whose vision is Good Healthy Food for All. Established in 1985 to address hunger in Toronto, the organization's multifaceted and long-term approach to hunger works to empower individuals, families, and communities through food based initiatives.
