Still confused and not sure what the heck all the bra burning in the 60's was about?
Get involved with diverse programming on issues ranging from reproductive freedom, sexuality, feminism, racism, violence, media and empowerment.
The Ryerson Women's Centre is RSU's oldest community service. Our goal is to improve, through education and action, the status and condition of all women at Ryerson. We do this by providing a safe space for women on campus as well as addressing issues of concern. We also offer many important services and enjoyable events. The office is a women-only space for women and self-identified women, including Transgendered women.
If you are a Ryerson student interested in issues affecting women on campus the Women's Centre is the place to go for more information and support.
The Women's Centre is run by a group of volunteers with assistance of three coordinators.
Men are welcome to use the Women's Centre's resources. However, due to the sensitivity of some issues being discussed we ask that you please knock.
FIVE REASONS to get involved!
- Because we are still told that what we look like is more important than what we think.
- Because women continue to face sexist violence every day – did you know that one in three women are likely to be raped during their lives and one in four will be sexually assaulted before 18 years of age.
- Because although women still do two-thirds of the world's work, most of it unpaid, women still only earn about 70% of the average male wage, and we continue to do the majority of work in the household. 62% of all minimum wage workers are women
- Because together, we can change history. The women's rights movement at the turn of the century organized mass strikes for better pay and working conditions, and for the right to vote. They pioneered the massive changes in women's position and forged a change in social consciousness about the roles women can play. But this struggle needs to continue or our rights and positions will be rolled - back
- Because a women's place is at the forefront. Be a leader or an organizer ~ get active today!
