INTERESTED IN EQUITY ISSUES
The Students' Union recognizes that there are social and structural barriers that create obstacles and prevent equal treatment of people on the basis of their religion, race, gender, sexuality, age, income, or disability.
These barriers divide us and prevent us from moving forward as a united student movement. In an effort to address the political, economical, social forces and issues that marginalized students face, the Students' Union created the Equity Issues Committee.
This Committee is open to all students - it is a great way to get involved.
During the year the Committee organizes campaigns, workshops, and invites guest speakers to educate, activate and inform the community about equity issues on campus and in our communities.
The RSU is committed to pro-active education to end hate and build tolerance.
Silence and inactions serve only to fuel hatred. It is time for each of us to actively work to stop hate. Email to GET INVOLVED! volunteer@rsuonline.ca
CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR EDUCATION
The Educational Issues Committee will work to address the various academic -related issues affecting Ryerson students. The committee is open to anyone interested in creating change on campus and lobbying the University's administration and the government to address student concerns.
GET INVOLVED WITH THE CAMPAIGN TO BRING RYERSON'S PROGRAMMES UP-TO-DATE...ELECTIVES ARE NOT ENOUGH!
Diverse Programme Options:
Are you concerned about the lack of options to take First Nations, Caribbean, Latin American, African, Middle Eastern, South Asian or East Asian studies at Ryerson? Ever wonder why there are no program options in the major world religions at Ryerson?
TIRED OF STUDENT DEBT & SKY-ROCKETING FEES?
SEND A MESSAGE TO THE GOVERNMENT
Under the provincial government's current tuition fee scheme, a student entering first year in a professional program in the year 2009-2010, two years from now, could be paying ,400 more tuition fees than an entering student did in 2005-2006. This means students in a four-year program could graduate with a minimum debt of ,000 - ,000 more than the current average debt for a four-year programme.
STUDENTS NEED TO ACT NOW TO STOP THE DEBT SENTENCE!
The Ryerson Students' Union will also be fighting hard to...
- Demand that Ryerson programs reflect its diverse population
- Incorporate an anti-oppression framework into educational campaigns
- Eliminate or decrease university and OSAP fees (ancillary, document requests etc.)
- Stop corporatization and privatization of education and research
- Fight to eliminate post-residency fees for master's and PhD students
Together students can make this University listen. So, if you want to work for these demands and more, or if you have an idea or concern to address, get involved with the Education Issues Committee and make a difference!
