What are All-Gender Bathrooms? All-gender bathrooms are safe spaces where anyone, regardless of gender identity or presentation, can use the toilet, wash their hands, and check the mirror.
Why are they important? Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in the bathroom. All-gender bathrooms are an important part of making campus safe, accessible, and welcoming for those who do not feel safe in male or female bathrooms. This includes many transgender, gender fluid, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people. All-Gender Bathrooms decrease transgender people’s anxiety and fear while using the toilet as there is less of a chance for physical or verbal assault.
How can we help? You can advocate for all-gender bathrooms and support our campaign through using our hashtags: #GiveACrap and #EqualBathroomsNow! You can also show your support by talking to your friends, colleagues, and professors about this issue. Finally, to stay in on the action, follow us on Facebook and Twitter so you can know when things are going down!
We are pleased to announce that we finally have an All-Gender Changeroom at Ryerson!! It is located in KHW - close to the RAC. As of today it is fully functional and ready for use. We would like to thank the Ryerson Gym for being such fantastic allies during this process.
The room number and keypad access code will be given out on an individual basis to those who contact us via email or Facebook. We are doing this in order to keep the space as safe as possible. This process will be totally anonymous, there will be no list of names or anything similar.
